Describing what a forum is on the Internet could vary depending on who you ask.   A good way to describe it is to show how Parcom uses one:

The Parcom forum is an interactive discussion environment that allows new and existing customers to leave messages for each other, and then reply.   The messages are public so that others can learn and interact as they see fit.   This open method is beneficial since the forum is active 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.   And at times, customers can teach other customers how to use their Parcom accounts to their full potential.
