Parcom Fights Global Warming

RENTON, Wash., July 10, 2007 --- Parcom makes the most dramatic move in the industry by moving toward a carbon neutral web hosting service.   This goal is a monumental challenge for any hosting company.  A challenge that may seem to most as impossible, but we are going to strive for this as the #1 business objective for the company.  "At Parcom, we are not just going to buy energy efficient equipment or use vendors that are also going to reduce the effects of global warming, we are actually going to constantly work towards being carbon neutral and look at every investment as tied to that goal," says David Parmelee, founder and CEO of Parcom.  Within a year Parcom will reach half of that goal by reducing power consumption by more than 50% by just investing in newer servers to replace older aging power hungry machines.  This challenge will not be easy and Parcom will work extra hard to make sure this goal is a success!

The web hosting industry as a whole is one very large contributor to global warming due to the power consumption of massive datacenters.  Datacenters in the hotter regions of the globe tend to use more power for cooling thereby making it far more of a challenge to be a true carbon neutral hosting company.  Datacenters in locations such as Texas or even in California, where power consumption is at an all time high due to far more heat waves than ever experienced in history, are some of the larger offenders.  Some datacenters are in regions where coal is the major source of energy to make it even worse!  Such places are those in Asia or even in the United States.  With our strategic location and with partners like Microsoft also making the bold move to find alternative energy sources for their own datacenters, Parcom believes in making this extremely expensive move to help with a problem that everyone should be working on too.  With companies such as Microsoft building in regions such as the Pacific Northwest where power can be provided by alternatives such as hydro power is a big step toward helping the industry if not the world.

Parcom is beginning to start seeking investors to work toward building the world's first carbon neutral datacenter facility. We will be promoting more information about this soon, but at this time we will be strictly working with partners that can make this dream come alive.   This will not be a warehouse solely with solar panels on the roof, not at all!  Our goal is to create something not done yet in the entire industry.   We will share our results once the project is complete.

We know that this will not make Parcom the cheapest host in the world anymore.  In fact we see costs going far higher than in the past as we push not just our server power use but our everyday office power consumption too.   From using company vehicles that are hybrids to encouraging our employees to seek ways to make changes within their own households, we truly believe that at Parcom we need to step up to be a leader in this area even if it means we lose clients to those hosting companies who do not care about our global climate!

Parcom strongly suggests all customers to look into ways to reducing your own power use within your homes too.   You may also want to take the time to do research on ways to get closer and closer to becoming "carbon neutral" too.  We believe if you make some change it is better than doing nothing at all!
