What does Parcom do?  And what is "web hosting"?

Home > Information > What is Hosting?

Target audience:  New or Entry Level

This is probably one of the most frequently asked question of our company.   We will try to describe this in the simplest way possible:

Parcom is a company that provides a focused business solution called web hosting. Web hosting is where we provide "disk space" to customers wanting to place their web sites ("html" files, pictures, etc) online. Keeping their files on our servers provides a means for a secure location that will be available 24 hours a day. Typically private parties and small businesses use web hosting services so they do not support and maintain a "web server".  Parcom takes care of all of the behind the scenes maintenance, equipment upgrades, and software purchases, so that customers can focus on just creating their web sites.

The best analogy is Parcom is like a parking lot. People need a place to "park" their web sites essentially, and we provide that space.  Each Parcom server is shared by hundreds of clients, which allows Parcom to provide affordable services to everyone.

Parcom is NOT an ISP, we are what the industry calls a "Web Presence Provider".   ISPs typically are services that provide you access to the internet, and sometimes bundle hosting with their services.  We, however do not split our resources.  We dedicate our efforts in providing our customers the best web site hosting service in the industry.

Why should you use Parcom?   Click here and find out more about our company.

Please feel free to contact us if you have additional questions.

Terms:

ISP - An ISP (Internet service provider) is a company that provides individuals and other companies access to the Internet and other related services such as Web site building and sometimes basic hosting services. An ISP has the equipment and the telecommunication line access required to have a point-of-presence on the Internet for the geographic area served. The larger ISPs have their own high-speed leased lines so that they are less dependent on the telecommunication providers and can provide better service to their customers.

An ISP is also sometimes referred to as an IAP (Internet access provider). ISP is sometimes used as an abbreviation for independent service provider to distinguish a service provider that is an independent, separate company from a telephone company

WPP (Web Presence Provider) - (also known as Web hosting, Web site hosting, and hosting) is the business of housing, serving, and maintaining files.
